A picture says a thousand words but sometimes, there’s a thousand people behind it. You can have a photographer, set designer, stylist, talent agent, models and the list goes on. We love being a part of photo shoots because we’re there from the beginning, creating strategy to executing it. It helps us express our creativity while building the brand identity of our clients.
Don’t get me wrong, we enjoy having them but there’s a lot of work and planning that goes into it. This is the process we go through to have a successful photo shoot:
Getting the Brief. We have clients submit a creative brief – basically a run down of what they want, how they want it and their overall expectations. The brief is the most important thing about a photo shoot. We can’t start planning for anything without knowing what we’re planning for.
The Package. Once we receive a brief, we evaluate and see if it’s within our colour wheel to complete. If it’s approved, we send over a deliverables package including client expectations, budget, talent options, itinerary, space rentals, etc. We need approval on this package before we do anything else.
Securing the Talent and Space. The models and setting need to match the product/brand. Sometimes it’s hard to find and this can set back deadlines if we can’t secure both for the same day(s).
The Little Things. Days before a photo shoot, we’re running around getting everything we may need from outfit options to accommodating food preferences/allergies. On the list, these things may not be the most important but they do have an effect on the shoot.
Check, check, check. We are continuously ensuring that everything is in place. Nothing is worst than realizing you overlooked a crucial element from missing a product to forgetting a prop. Conducting checks saves countless re-shoots down the road.
Big Day. We always manage to have butterflies the morning of a shoot day. We know there’s a lot counting on it. We’ve learned to be flexible because child models act up or we need to rework the schedule, etc. Throughout the day, we’re checking with our client to ensure that we’re meeting their expectations.
Post Shoot. The timeline may vary on when deliverables will be completed but it’s always a great feeling to submit the work we’ve done to a client.
