Nostalgia is too big to avoid now

Nostalgia is too big to avoid now by Sam Dias on April 5th, 2019

It’s been here for a few years now and looks like it’s not going away anytime soon. Everyday a new company or industry jumps on the nostalgia hype-train, especially in the pop culture industry. Movie reboots, new takes on old franchises (Star Wars, X-Files, Ghostbusters, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes, Alladin, Dumbo, Hellboy, Robocop, Blade Runner, Judge Dredd and many others).

And it isn’t just the movie industry, video games have been “plagued” by this too, with old consoles being launched in smaller packages, like the Super Nintendo Entertainment system, the soon to be launched Sega Genesis, the first Playstation and even remakes of old classics like Resident Evil, Doom, Prince of Persia, Wolfenstein, Sim City, Tomb Raider and many others.

The fashion industry is bubbling with old trends coming back to life Remember shoulder patches and acid wash denim? Well, they’re back and bigger than ever!

Music booms 80’s, 90’s, 00’s themed melodies and bands reunite like there’s no tomorrow. Backstreet Boys, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen, Motley Crew, Guns N’ Roses, even the not so old Jonas Brothers are jumping at the chance to get back together.

I like the return of good old stuff, especially old video game titles that got updated, but I still wish that we spent some more time on creating some new trends and ideas of our own. Let’s double the effort and have the best of both worlds!
